Press On

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. – Philippians 3:12-14

There are two types of people in this world.  Actually, that’s a lie, but let’s pretend its true for the sake of simplicity.  Anyway, two types of people – Goal Setters and let’s call them “Ride The Wave” people.  And, within these two groups of people are two other groups.

In the world of Goal Setters are those who actually set goals and those who dream about a goal.  The dreamers fantasize about achieving something, or being somewhere, or having something, but they don’t actually do anything thing about it.  They don’t evaluate or take steps to realize their dreams.  Whereas, the Goal Setters, set a goal, evaluate the likelihood of achieving it, put some steps into place and then start on the path of achieving the goal.

Ride The Wave people, of which I am one, can also be divided into two groups.  The one group operates from a position of strength and the other lives chaotically.  The Chaotic Ride The Wave people, basically allow life to happen to them.  They have no foundation to build on and often end up being victims of their circumstances.  Whereas, the Foundational Ride The Wavers have a basic platform in place from which they can take advantage of opportunities that come along, or step away from an opportunity and continue along whatever path they were already on.

The results are similar for these four groups.  The Dreamers and Chaotic ones often end up nowhere in particular and in some case experience rather disastrous results.  The Goal Setters and Foundational Ride the Wavers, usually end up somewhere pretty good, though the key difference is one group knew in advance where they were going.

None of this is set in stone, life happens, and of course there are more then two groups of people, including refuges, the marginalized, mentally ill, physically challenged, emotionally and physically abused, etc., etc.  But, none of these conditions has to be fatal and as Paul wrote to the Philippians, we do have a goal in Christ and a saviour who walks this path with us.

This coming Sunday, December 29, 2019 – the last Sunday of the decade – we will look back and look forwards.  So, come on out to The Sunday Gathering, at The Journey Neighbourhood Centre:  10:30am for Food and Friends and 11:00am for Worship and Inspiration.
